Church Bash

For the first time (at least that I know of) our church had a HUGE Fourth of July celebration. It went from 3:00-8:00 and was supposed to end with a band concert but the concert was canceled because of the rain. There were FIVE bounce houses and a big slide, two miniature ponies for pony rides, and a "petting zoo" with a lamb, a pig, some rabbits and some chickens. They had a cotton candy machine, a snow cone machine, a popcorn maker and they grilled HUNDREDS of hamburgers and hot dogs. There were a LOT of community people there (not from our church) as well as church people. There probably would have been a lot more if it would not have been raining at the beginning of it (and earlier in the afternoon). They were giving out free t-shirts to kids that have the upcoming VBS theme and date printed on them. You want to talk about an incredible outreach into the community. Kevin was talking to Pastor Wolfe and he (Wolfe) said that next year he would like to add a helicopter (for rides) and fireworks - and he was dead serious. It (everything today) was free to everyone. We couldn't believe it! When he first came to try out, Pastor Wolfe said he wanted the church to grow so that we had to use the big tabernacle all the time. I can imagine it would be easy to sit back and tend to the flock you have when you already have hundreds of people in your congregation, but that is not his intention (which is the way it should be). Between he and the rest of the pastors and staff, they are really doing a great job. Anyway, we were not there for the whole time but we stopped by and were quite impressed!

This was the petting "area". I don't think Kaelyn even
actually touched any of the animals.

This was the bounce house that Kay played in.

Bounce house

These were two of the other bounce houses. They were
all quite cute!

Getting ready to ride

Getting back from the ride. They just made a small
circle. (All of the activity was taking place in the big
field and the parking lot behind the church.)

Eating a snow cone

Meagan was TOO CUTE eating this cotton candy!
Kaelyn wouldn't eat any after feeling the texture
of it.
